Cosy Corner South offers free camping with generous access to caravans. It’s dog friendly, with long drop toilets. Phone and internet service are available through the 4G network. But best of all, close proximity to stunning white beaches.
Looking toward Binalong Bay and Swimcart Beach campsite
Bay of Fires is approximately four hours from Hobart and three hours from Launceston.
Cosy Corner South campsite is one of several campsites (Swimcart, Cosy Corner North, Sloop Reef Camping, Sloop Lagoon Camping and Jeanneret Beach) located at the southern end of the spectacular Bay of Fires conservation area.
The Bay of Fires is recognised worldwide for its astonishing clear blue seas, striking orange lichen-covered granite boulders, and brilliant white beaches. Without a shadow of a doubt, this stunning landscape offers postcard images in whatever direction you point your camera.
Cosy Corner south is a short 15-minute drive from the St Helens Newsagent in the centre of town. As you head east along Quail street, roughly 500-meters from the Newsagent, a free water tap is located on the left should you need to top up any water tanks. However, bear in mind that Cosy Corner South has no onsite freshwater facility.
Fresh Oysters
Quail Street transforms into Binalong Bay Road (C850) around the freshwater fill point. If you fancy fresh oysters, you’ll pass the infamous Lease 65 oyster farm, and it’s certainly worth dropping in for a dozen or so. Then, roughly eight kilometres from the Newsagent, you take a left turn on to the Gardens Road (C848) and follow it for another five kilometres. There is a large Cosy Corner South sign to signal the entrance to the campsite.

It is important to note that this campsite is extremely popular during school, Christmas, Easter holidays, and especially on long weekends. Cosy Corner South has access for small and mid-size caravans; however, larger caravans, campervans, and motorhomes are better suited for the grassed Cosy Corner North campsite just up the road. Cosy Corner South has no facilities other than pit toilets. Therefore, you will need to bring your own water, firewood and take your rubbish with you when you leave. Maximum stay four (4) weeks – dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads and under control.
