Modern touring is no longer about surviving off-grid. It’s about living comfortably off-grid.
Coffee machines, induction cooktops, air conditioning, Starlink, laptops, lighting, and all the bits in between. The demand has outgrown traditional 12V systems, and anyone who has tripped a system mid-toast knows exactly what that feels like.
Projecta’s 48V system addresses that head-on.
At its core is a 4kW inverter charger with an 8kW surge capacity, backed by fast charging capability that can take a 5kW battery from flat to full in as little as 1.5 to 2 hours on mains. That is not just quick. That is practical.
And importantly, it does it without the bulk and weight penalty that typically comes with bigger power setups.

The drive from Launceston to Freycinet typically takes around three to four hours, offering travellers ample opportunities to stop and admire the coastal scenery along the way.
Smaller, lighter, smarter
One of the standout advantages here is efficiency. The 48V architecture reduces energy loss and voltage drop, which means more of your stored power actually gets used.
In real terms, that translates to things like running a 48V air conditioner while still having enough capacity to boil the kettle or run a toaster without juggling switches.
The system itself is also lighter and more compact than comparable 12V setups. For caravan owners, that means more usable payload and more space where it actually matters.
There’s also the option to mount batteries on the chassis, freeing up valuable interior storage. Anyone who has ever tried to pack a van for a long trip will appreciate just how big a deal that is.
Plugging into the real world
Projecta hasn’t reinvented everything for the sake of it. The system intelligently converts 48V input down to 12V output via a customisable 18-channel module, ensuring compatibility with existing appliances.
It is a practical bridge between what we already use and where the technology is heading.
Those 18 channels are not just there for show either. They can handle everything from heavy loads through to lighting and dimming circuits, with individual fusing on each output. It is neat, controlled, and properly thought through.
Designed for builders, not just buyers
While the end user benefits are obvious, this system is just as much about the people building the vans.
Lighter cabling, tool-free WAGO connectors, and a modular two-unit design all point to faster, cleaner installs. That means reduced labour time and a more consistent finish.
For manufacturers, it also opens the door to genuine flexibility.
As Projecta Brand Manager Jake Smith explains,
“We had the opportunity to demonstrate the technology at the Supershow and the feedback from both manufacturers and caravan owners was extremely positive.”
That early response is already translating into real-world adoption.
“A large number of manufacturers are already integrating the system into their 2026 builds,” he said.

Control without complication

Projecta has kept that in check with a choice of 7-inch or 10-inch touchscreen displays, backed by simple, intuitive menus.
According to Smith, ease of use was a major focus during development.
“Prospective end users immediately recognised the benefits in terms of simplicity and the system’s ability to handle a wide range of power demands,” he said.
There’s also Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to access the same functionality via a smartphone app. Simple, practical, and exactly what you want when you’re sitting under the awning rather than inside the van.
Built for Australian conditions
The optional 48V 105Ah LiFePO4 battery has been designed with local conditions in mind. Rated to IP67 and IP69K, it is built to handle dust, water, and the kind of punishment that comes with real travel.
Protection systems cover overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuits, and temperature extremes.
Tested where it matters
This is not a concept rolled out for show.
Projecta has been running these systems in real-world conditions since mid-2025, with units operating in caravans across Australia.
Smith says that testing phase has been critical.
“Along with our internal laboratory testing, these systems have been operating in caravans around Australia without issue and have received strong endorsement from owners,” he said.
“We’re confident the new 48V system sets a new benchmark for the industry.”
The bigger picture
What Projecta has done here is not just release a new product. They have acknowledged where the touring market is heading.
